Bride Essentials To Pack For Your Big Day

Bride Essentials To Pack For Your Big Day

Guest Post: Bride Essentials To Pack For Your Big Day www.redeventweddingfayres.com.png

There are so many things that could be overlooked or missed on a day as big and important as your wedding day, no matter how obvious they may seem.

Have you heard of the traditional something new, something old, something borrowed, and something blue? Have you considered preparing an emergency kit? Well, we have curated a list of things that you cannot forget, which are necessary and essential, for every prepared bride on her wedding day.

Something New, Something Old, Something Borrowed

We’ve all heard of the bridal trousseau, which is a collection of items from the clothing and jewellery you wear on your wedding day to more traditional pieces like a garter or something blue.

Your something new can be anything from your dress, jewellery, shoes, or anything you’ll be wearing that was specifically bought for the occasion. This means that you will have prosperity and happiness in your marriage.

For something old, you can wear a family jewel or relic. It symbolizes that family and friendship ties will never be broken and will lead with your partner.

Something blue represents the purity of marriage, and you can choose to wear it on a small ribbon, bridal bouquet, a hair accessory, or earrings.

As for something borrowed, it refers to something another bride has already worn. Someone in a happy marriage lends you something, and yours will be equally delighted. It is a symbol of friendship from the person who lends it to you, and it can be a jewel, a garter belt, or a handkerchief.

Emergency Kit

Things happen; there’s dancing, spilled drinks, sweating, etc. Lots of things to consider and lots to prevent, so you must always consider carrying a bridal emergency kit that consists of :

  • barrettes

  • bobby pins or hair clips,

  • disposable tissues,

  • sewing kit,

  • mint sheets,

  • hairspray,

  • lint roller,

  • double-stick fashion tape,

  • stain remover pen,

  • perfume,

  • blotting papers,

  • pain reliever,

  • pads or tampons,

  • eye drops,

  • toothbrush and toothpaste,

  • deodorant,

  • allergy medication,

  • antacid medication,

  • extra earring backs,

  •  brush or comb,

  • phone charger,

  • cords and an emergency camera,

  • snacks and protein bars, water, etc.

The list could seriously go on; it is important to keep anything that may come in handy and have the mother or bridesmaid keep it around when needed.

Makeup To Retouch

With all the hustle and bustle of the day, the dancing, sweating, happy tears, pictures, kissing, and hours going by, you will probably need a little touch-up on your makeup. This can be part of your emergency makeup kit: translucent powder, lash glue and extra eyelashes, blush, eyeliner, makeup remover to clean up any mess, tweezers, lipstick and lip liner, lip balm and makeup setting spray, and refreshing spray (very important!) Better safe than sorry!

Flats or Comfortable Shoes

We know how exciting getting a beautiful pair of cream pumps is on your big day; indeed, a girl will always love shoes! But the reality is wedding days are usually long and packed, and by midnight you will want to throw them and never see them again! So don't forget to buy some nice flats, sandals or tennis shoes for this occasion. Make sure they are comfortable and preferably broken into already. Wedding dresses are long, and by midnight no one will even notice you’re not wearing your heels anymore.

Keep Three Bouquets At Hand

One bouquet is never enough; we recommend that you use three: the first in case you want to keep it as a souvenir, the second will depend on whether you want to offer it at the ceremony, and the last will be the one that you throw to all your single guests. This can also come in handy if anything happens to your bouquet, mostly if it’s made out of natural fresh flowers. You’ll always want a fresh-looking flowers in your picture.

Well respected professionals in the industry Make Up by Andrea Baines and Elizabeth Elsie Bridal Make Up are here to share their favourite ‘bridal looks’ in the hope to inspire your bridal make up and give you an idea on how to tie in your bridal make up with your wedding theme!

First up is Make Up by Andres Baines……

FESTIVAL WEDDING THEME BRIDAL MAKE UP - By Andrea Baines

Festival Bridal / Male Festival bridal looks have steadily been growing as a major trend. With looks ranging from bohemian to bonkers this look is all about being a free spirit and celebrating your unique style. Festival style wedding receptions are trending with tipis, floral explosions and plenty of colour. Think of the mix of styles and glastonbury from the relaxed hippie to the bold and brave - this look can embody it all

Who would suit this look?

Brides that would suit this look would be those who want to make a statement and have a unique wedding full of fun. If you're a festival lover, nature lover, consider yourself quirky or adventurous, this look could be for you.

Makeup Styling and Techniques!

The make up for this look is all about fresh youthful skin with a lit from within glow. Nothing too heavy. Blushed cheeks maintain the youthful summery vibe. Pops of colour which can be as subtle or as full on as you like. In the picture above I've used sunset colours - burnt oranges and yellows to pull the whole look together with the flowers and dress.

I would say this look is about experimenting and allowing yourself to think outside the typical bridal styles. For inspiration turn to pinterest and blogs such as Festival Brides. Flowers are key components in this style and a floral crown is a great way to elevate your look.

Top Tip to achieve the Festival Look!

Finding the right suppliers will help the process of planning a festival style wedding more fun. You need photographers with a less traditional style of shooting who will fully get in to the festival spirit. A venue that is relaxed and less formal. And definitely a make up artist who is skilled at a fresh take on make up.

TIMELESS ELEGANCE BRIDAL MAKE UP - By Andrea Baines

This look above is going nowhere. Elegance will never go out of fashion. Whether you follow a traditional style of elegance or have a modern take on it, this look is classy and oozes sophistication.

Who would suit this look?

The type of bride who would suit this look is someone who likes to keep things simple but perfectly executed. A bride who wants to look like the best version of herself, perfectly polished. If your wedding is classic, chic or modern luxe this could be the look for you.

Makeup Styling and Techniques!

This make up is about building thin layers to achieve a flawless coverage. A classic smokey eye with a perfect flick. In the picture I've used a punchy colour on the lip to keep the look modern. The hair is styled with classic waves and beautifully designed hair accessories.

Top Tip about this timeless Elegance look!

This look is timeless and will not date, when looking back on wedding photos you will not be able pinpoint the period in which the wedding took place only that it looked stunning and still stands the test of time.

VINTAGE BRIDAL MAKE UP - by Andrea Baines

This look is all about pulling influences from looks from previous decades. The most loved and recreated looks are those from the 20s, 40s, 50s and 60s. Each of those periods of time have very distinct looks that transport you in to a different world and offer a romantic take on the past.

Who would suit this look?

The bride that would suit this look is one who adores fashion from gone by eras and revels in the romance of old school glamour. If you are fan of old movies, Hollywood starlets and making a dramatic statement this look could be for you.

Makeup Styling and Techniques!

In the picture I have taken elements from a classic 20s look with dark eye makeup and a crimson red lip. I've also incorporated some 50s styling with the addition of a heavy flick. This combined with a beautiful vintage style dress and hairstyle produce a jaw dropping look.

Top Tip to achieve a Vintage Bridal look!

To pull off this look successfully you have to be respectful to the era you are emulating without looking like it is fancy dress. Little touches like vintage rings and a venue with a vintage feel will pull the look together and make for a stylish affair.

Rock N Roll Bridal Make up Andrea Banes Bridal Make Up to match your wedding theme www.redeventweddingfayres.com.jpg

ROCK N ROLL BRIDAL - By Andrea Baines

This look is all about being a rebel! Rock n Roll style has increased in popularity as more and more brides are throwing away the rule books and having their day their way. This look is about baring all tattoos or wearing leather boots with your wedding dress (if indeed you choose a dress!). Edgy and sassy, this style is hard to miss.

Who would suit this look?

The type of bride who would suit this look is someone who likes to stand out from the crowd. The type of bride who doesn't kneel to tradition and wants to have a wedding that leaves an impression. Whether you're a full on rocker or a fan of a rockabilly style, this look could be for you.

Makeup Styling and Techniques!

In the pic the style is very 50s rockabilly with a retro dress. For make up I followed the 50s influence and used a heavy flick on the eye and a true red lip. Hair was styled with volume and a full fringe bringing some 60s vibes in to the mix.

Top Tip to achieve a Rock N Roll Bridal look!

This look is all about non traditional statements, the addition of a leather jacket, a hair band rather than a veil, boots rather than a shoe. Add in a groom in a velvet suit, dickie now and a cool backdrop and you will have wedding pictures that will knock your socks off!

Next up is Bridal Makeup by Elizabeth Elsie….

EDITORIAL, MODERN BRIDAL MAKE UP - By Elizabeth Elsie

The above look was created when I designed a concept for the leading Makeup Academy in Asia. I flew to India whilst living in Bangkok to shoot with India's top photographers @vijaypowarphotography.

Who would suit this look?

This is an editoral look however, I feel a red lip is being worn more and more by brides these days and is such a strong statement, many rock and roll, bohemian and vintage style brides are complete with a red lip.

Top Tip to achieve the perfect Red Lip!

One of my top tips for brides wearing a red lip would be to pop some clear setting powder over the top and set with a setting spray seal in the powder, this will make it kiss proof!

INDIAN BRIDAL MAKE UP - By Elizabeth Elsie

I adore Asian Bridal Makeup and of course the weddings are so much fun to be part of; the music, the colours and of course the food.

A traditional Indian wedding lasts an average of three days, sometimes they can go on longer. The makeup usually ties in with the Sari worn, with the bride choosing contrasting or harmonising colours.

Makeup Styling and Techniques!

Indian Bridal makeup is usually more intense with more brighter colours used, there is alot of jewellery and accessories which also complement the look.

Top Tip to the perfect bridal look!

For any fuller makeup look great skin prep leading up to the ceremony and on the day also is very important so the makeup looks beautiful and not cakey.

NATURAL BEAUTY BRIDAL MAKE UP - By Elizabeth Elsie

Natural Make up Andrea Banes Bridal Make Up to match your wedding theme www.redeventweddingfayres.com 2.jpg
Bridal makeup looks to reflect your Wedding Theme!

Fresh and natural makeup is a timeless classic for many brides. This look is perfect as it enhances the best features of every bride. Sometimes the natural look can be one of the hardest looks to do as it's so easy to go over board with makeup. When a bride had their picture taken these days the professional camera can pick up on everything so it needs to look perfectly natural on pictures but also be able to last all day.

Top Tip for watery eyes!

If your eyes have the tenancy to water then a little bit of Vaseline or natural ingredient lip balm just inside the water line can help to stop watery eyes ans allow the eye makeup to stay in place all day.

The 5 Trends Brides Can’t Get Enough

Every bride wants her makeup to be perfect for her big day, but it can be difficult to keep on top of bridal trends to make sure your makeup is on point. You may hear a range of different and sometimes even contradictory tips and even if you do finally get your head around it, how do you know if these “trends” will still be trendy by the time your wedding day actually comes around?

Thankfully, makeup expert Natalie Hehir from Makeup by Nat is here to give you the most recent wedding trends that brides can’t get enough of.

  Top Trends

Make up by Nats Bridal Blog Berry Lips www.redeventweddingfayres.com.jpg

Berry Lips

Bye bye nude! This year is all about making bold statements with berry coloured lips. Celebs can’t get enough of the pretty but striking confidence that berry lips radiate. It’s the perfect colour to add a feminine palette to your makeup. Finish berry lips with more subtle blusher in pastel colours for the perfect combination.

Make up by Nats Bridal Blog dewy highlighter www.redeventweddingfayres.com.jpg

Dewy Highlight

Ever wondered how celebrities get that beautiful and healthy glisten, without ever breaking into a sweat? Dewy highlights give you the catwalk glow while you walk down the aisle. Make sure you use creams rather powder to highlight and give a natural glow.

Make up by Nats Bridal Blog full lashes www.redeventweddingfayres.com.jpg

Full Lashes

Let’s be honest, you may not get a lot of beauty sleep the night before your wedding day. All the planning, drinking, nerves - and even some tears - can result in a tired bride. Fluffy strip lashes can give picture-perfect brides the ideal frame for the eyes and draw attention away from any bags under the eye area. Quality is important here to give a high-end appearance.

Make up by Nats Bridal Blog pink eyeshadow www.redeventweddingfayres.com.png

Pink and Mauve Eyeshadow

One of the biggest trends at Liverpool Fashion week were pink and mauve eyeshadow. These shades have recently been making an appearance in bridal makeup and are the industry’s must have for 2019! For best results, apply a neutral base coat, then use a shade of mauve in the crease. To complete the look, use a highlighter just above the crease and in the inner corner of the eyes to apply the pink shades.

How To Get The Perfect Look

So now you know the trends. What next? Here are Nat’s top techniques on how to achieve perfect the look.

  1. Eyes first. Beginning with eye makeup first makes it easier to clean up any fallout before applying your base.

  2. Prime your skin. Perfect makeup looks best on good skin, so it’s vital to prepare the skin beforehand. I recommend beginning as soon as possible to make sure your skin is healthy and glowing for the big day.

  3. Good lighting is paramount. Many hotels have poor lighting which makes it harder to get the makeup just right. Check the room beforehand and use a ring light where possible.

  4. Best for last. The bride’s makeup should be applied after the bridal party to ensure it’s fresh and perfect. A good makeup artist should always allow plenty of time for the bride and then touch ups on the bridal party if necessary.

The 7 Bridal Hair Mistakes To Avoid

Wedding Hairstyles You Need For 2019 pinned by Jenny blog www.redeventweddingfayres.com/blogging/The-7-Bridal-Hair-Mistakes-To-Avoid-for-2019

The 7 Bridal Hair Mistakes To Avoid.

It’s every bride’s worst nightmare. The big day comes along, your dress is perfect, the guests are here, everything is going smoothly, but your hair just isn’t quite right.

Bridal hairstylist Jenny Dold from Pinned By Jenny is here to share the 7 most common bridal hair mistakes to avoid!

Not Doing A Hair Trial

A trial is a must-have to make sure we choose the right style for you and your bridesmaids. This also allows the morning to run as smoothly as possible.

Not Consulting The Weather

What’s the weather going to be like? Some styles can depend on the weather. For example if it’s raining and windy I would recommend to go for an updo instead of the hair being down. This will stay in all day and you won’t need to worry about the weather.

Not Considering The Dress

It seems so obvious, but it’s so common for brides-to-be to choose a hairstyle without thinking about complimenting the dress. For example a vintage style dress might suit classic Hollywood waves finished of with a headband.

Forgetting Accessories

As a hairstylist I always recommend hair accessories for the bride, bridesmaid and flower girls. This is a great way to get that extra special look for your big day and finishes of the look perfectly. Fresh flowers give a lovely finish, you can ask your florist to prepare them for on the day.

Not Knowing Your Hair Type

If you have short or fine hair or just want a fuller look, hair extensions are a great way to add length and volume. Your hairstylist can help you choose the best look for your hair type if you’re unsure.

Not Preparing

I recommend my clients to have a fresh colour a week before your wedding day to allow the colour to settle nicely. Depending on the style and your hair type I always recommend to wash your hair the day before. A professional blow dry the day before is a great way to to get that extra shine for the perfect finish.

Not Getting Inspiration

Don’t underestimate the power of inspiration. Consult Pinterest, Instagram and bridal magazines to help get a better idea of the look you want to create. Giving examples to your hairstylist can help to achieve the style you want.

Is your skin wedding ready? We chatted to NuYu Clinic about what they can offer you to prepare your skin for your wedding day!

Your wedding is advertised as the happiest day of your life, but usually what precedes it can be one of the most stressful times of your life and this can wreak havoc on your skin. Your skin can be one of the biggest indicators that something isn’t right; from those hormonal breakouts, to stress, poor diet or too many beers/wines at the weekend leaving your skin grey, sallow and dehydrated. And it does not differentiate – both men and women, young and the more mature can suffer with skin concerns and want the same outcomes – to look and feel the best they can be.

Did you know, your skin is the biggest organ of your body? Yet doesn’t receive the same recognition or awareness of the necessity to look after it. In general life, and especially in the run up to your wedding, we all invest time, effort and money into our hair, clothing, fitness, even dance lessons, in anticipation of the big day! But one crucial thing that is overlooked is our skin.  It is so important to invest in your skin, as it is going to represent you for a long time, and it should certainly represent you on your wedding day.

A look at team NUYU’s treatment area.. where the magic happens!

A look at team NUYU’s treatment area.. where the magic happens!

Your wedding day will be one of the most photographed days of your life, and although photo albums are becoming a thing of the past, it will still be that album that you pull out in years to come, so it’s essential that your skin works with you not against you and reflects those truly magical moments, it should shine (in the good way) just like your day does. Healthy skin is crucial to enhance your natural beauty and is a perfect canvas for your makeup!

The aesthetics and skin health industry is booming, and quite rightly so, but it can be an absolute minefield and you can often feel that people are just pushing you down the route of what they offer, not necessarily what’s right for you. This is why it’s important that your practitioner, for whichever clinic you choose, has a good knowledge of both skin and facial anatomy, understands the science behind why your skin is behaving like it does and offers you corrective not just cosmetic skincare.

Team NUYU only work with brands that we believe in, that we use ourselves and that we know, most importantly will deliver what our clients want and need. We are pleased to be AlumierMD representatives, a luxury medical grade, results orientated skincare brand that delivers a range of both professional and prescription only home use products that provides real clinical outcomes for clients. Each product has actual therapeutic doses of products to target your skins structure and function, this is what makes it so different! Most skincare/cosmeceuticals will not affect the skins structure or function therefore it never really helps your malfunctioning skin reach its optimum level of healthy functioning.

NuYu Clinic www.redeventweddingfayres.com

Many people suffer with various skin conditions, such as acne, dryness, oily, sensitive, rosacea and hyperpigmentation and many people will fall into various categories regarding this – those that have tried everything at vast expense with no real results and have given up or those that think they are stuck with whatever their complaint is and have lost all hope before even beginning. We truly believe and know that all hope is not lost – you just need to speak to the right professional!

Anti-ageing is a strange term as it is stigmatised as something we are not allowed to do. Ageing is a natural and inevitable process so should be something to embrace, but there are things that you can do to age well.

With targeted treatments to keep your skin working at its optimum, we can aide cell turnover so our collagen and elastin - the building blocks of our youthful skin - continues to work hard for us to maintain suppleness, reduce lines and wrinkles forming and prevent muscle and fat pad wastage that changes the structure of our face. Glowing, healthy and plump skin doesn’t have to be just for the young.

consultation area – vitally important to allow you and your practitioner to have the same goals!

consultation area – vitally important to allow you and your practitioner to have the same goals!

Taking care of yourself, taking care of your skin, isn’t just for women. It’s for men too; even those stereotypical alpha males take pride in their appearance and should consider the benefits of some skin therapy. Sweat, facial hair and pollution contribute to the skin having to work hard to protect and defend. Doesn’t it make sense that the skin needs protecting and defending too.

We advocate having a professional consultation to help you find the right products, alongside the right professional treatment. We can help create individualised packages such as the ever popular dermaplaning or microdermabrasion, or deeper therapies such as microneedling, medical masks, chemical peels. Even injectable treatments such as toxins and dermal fillers have their place when administered by a fully-qualified medical practitioner. They are all effective in doing what they are aimed for, as stand-alone treatments and can produce outstanding and significant results when booked as a course or as part of a bespoke package. But, what is most important is that any of these methods should  help you to look like a better version of yourself.

You shouldn’t walk into that clinic looking like you and leave looking like everyone else, what you should do is walk out having started your journey and with more of an understanding of what is going on and how with professional and the right home care products you can achieve your skin goals.

Lastly, and most importantly, never forget… feeling confident, being comfortable in your own skin – that’s what really makes you beautiful.
